MEDIEVAL HARP TUNING PRACTICE :
So What's a Cywair When It's at Home?

PaulDooley

TUTOR : PAUL DOOLEY
Intonation is at the heart of every musical performance. A fiddler or piper can slide, bend or vary the pitch of a note to enhance a piece of music, but on the harp, intonation is pre-determined by tuning each note to a fixed pitch. This workshop will focus on the intonation issues inherent in the Robert ap Huw manuscript and reconcile these with other available sources, in an attempt to give a full picture of what was medieval harp tuning practice and how this is relevant for today's aspiring harper.

COMMUNITY RHYTHM CIRCLE

JaneBentley

TUTOR : JANE BENTLEY
A rhythm circle is an improvisational, invitational musical event where there is no audience, only players on a facilitated journey of increasing mutuality, communication, and communion finding the group groove! It also happens to be a great opportunity for brushing up on rhythm and ensemble skills, as the quality of the music we make depends on our skills of attention and group relationship, rather than any previous technical percussion expertise. A variety of world drums and percussion instruments will be provided, or if you're feeling adventurous, why not bring your harp?
