The Virtual EIHF 2020
A huge collective sigh ran through the harp world when we had to announce the unprecedented cancellation of our 2020 Edinburgh International Harp Festival, owing to the global Covid-19 pandemic. But enter one enterprising knight in shining harp(our) to save the day!
The first ever Virtual EIHF was the brainchild of harp (and EIHF committee) superstar Rachel Hair, in collaboration with a stellar line-up of performers and teachers who would all have been performing and teaching at this year’s EIHF. So whilst we couldn’t all be together in Edinburgh this year, the EIHF was still able to give people the chance to experience some happy harping over the dates of the 2020 Festival.
The VEIHF was free for everyone (with no need to register) and, from the evening of Friday the 3rd of April until the evening of Wednesday the 8th April, videos were uploaded daily at three different time slots (BST): at 1pm & 4pm harp tutor videos, teaching new tunes/skills; and at 7.30pm, harp performance videos.
The videos were also available on YouTube and Facebook and available to view after they were premiered, meaning that were accessible in all timezones. The videos will remain available for the foreseeable future, at least for the duration of ‘lockdown’.
