    James Ruff

    Since 2005, tenor James Ruff has focused on researching and performing early Gaelic courtly repertoire from Scotland and Ireland for voice and clarsach.   A fluent learner of Scottish Gaelic, he studied Gaelic song with Kenna Campbell and early Gaelic harp with Siobhán Armstrong.  He has won awards for Gaelic singing at both the National Mòd in the US and the Royal National Mòd in Scotland. 
    Since 2017 he has performed and taught at Scoil na Cláirseach – Festival of Early Irish Harp: Kilkenny, Ireland. 
    He toured the US and abroad as Daniel in The Play of Daniel and has taught voice at Vassar College since 2009.
