Neil Wood

Neil is a Glasgow based Scottish traditional harper, teacher and researcher performing on both gut-strung lever and wire-strung harp. He employs a blended approach on both harps using fingernails and pads to aid his exploration of timbre and ornamentation – aiming to emulate the distinctive sounds and textures found within Scottish traditional music more widely, on the harp. Neil is currently undertaking a PhD at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in which he is exploring the incorporation of fingernail techniques into contemporary Scottish traditional harp practice.
